Ets Haim Library (Amsterdam)

Ets Haim, on the premises of the Portuguese Synagogue, has been internationally renowned since the Dutch Seventeenth Century. Founded in 1616, it is the oldest active Jewish library in the world. In 2003, the collection was included as world heritage of great cultural and social importance in the UNESCO ‘Memory of the World Register’.

BPH [Embassy of the Free Mind] (Amsterdam)

The Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica is a treasure house of the tradition of Christian-Hermetic Gnosis in Europe, exploring the spiritual tradition, in which self-knowledge and knowledge of nature provide the key to achieve knowledge of God. The Ritman Library contains some 25,000 titles.

Artis Library (Amsterdam)

Artis Library contains old and rare printed books, manuscripts, drawings, paintings and prints covering the history of natural history, and reflecting the scientific ambition of the society that founded Artis Zoo. Since 1939 this impressive collection is owned by the University of Amsterdam and currently curated by the Allard Pierson. The library is located in its original 19th-century building at the Zoo.

VU [Free University Library] (Amsterdam)

Within the Library of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the department of Special and Historical Collections administers all manuscripts and printed works in all fields up to 1901 (although not yet all 19th-century editions), and part of the modern rare books. This represents a total of 70,000 items.

Rijksmuseum Library (Amsterdam)

The library’s collection on European art history is extremely comprehensive. The original core of the collection is the history of painting, prints, drawings, the applied arts and sculpture in Western Europe from the Middle Ages to the start of the 20th century. Other key areas are the history of photography, iconography, collecting, Indian miniatures, Chinese painting and bronzes, Japanese prints, and sculpture from South/South-east Asia.

House of the book / Huis van het boek [Museum Meermanno] (The Hague)

The museum is located in the attractive former residence of the Baron Van Westreenen van Tiellandt (1783-1848) and is devoted to the hand-written and printed book of the past and present. The museum maintains an extensive collection of books from all periods of Western book history, starting with medieval manuscripts. The book room is a unique example of nineteenth-century museum design and its original style remains entirely intact.

Please select an excursion, and mail the number and name of your choice to Paul van Capelleveen: paulton@xs4all.nl.
You will receive a Paypal invoice (if appropriate) and a confirmation of your booking. After payment, you will receive a confirmation of receipt.

It is possible to combine morning and afternoon excursions, but be mindful of travel time!
